[dns-operations] Identifier and naming system for IoT

Hi colleagues, 

I’m attending a symposium about identifier and naming for Industry Internet(IoT?). 
There are presentations about ONS and Handle system for future naming. I have 
a feeling that I’m missing a lot. Are ONS and Handle system still popular 
in industry or academy?  To me web of things is more friendly and often heard around.

Anyone who are familiar with this who can give me some clue, Thanks!
