We've been having issues with AnyEvent and recentish Perl versions. 
Something regarding changes to the internals, with no clear resolution 
path foreseen. This was some time ago, for an unrelated application. We 
decided to move to a different implementation and do a version freeze.

Other than that, the async event framework is pretty cool :-)

Do your research before investing too much time.
