I'm not sure what PR activity PIR has planned, but from the technical perspective we're far more concerned about getting announcements out when we inevitably roll the KSK... which should happen soon, for some as-yet-unannounced value of soon.  I expect there will be an attached recommendation then will be that those manually configuring a TA should remove it, and use the DS in the root.. but for now we don't see a problem with people continuing to use whatever TA they've been using up to now.
