I was advising a student the other day who was confused why he couldn't
find documentation about a particular behavior he was observing in data.
I had to explain to him that a lot of what exists in the wild in DNS
isn't documented and is technically "not wrong", even though no document
says you should or shouldn't do it.
He was surprised, even as an example, to see that some recursive
resolvers set the recursive flag even when sending queries to the root.
He then asked the wise question: what would happen if they got back
deeper information than what they asked for? Would they go chase all
the references in order to validate it? To which I answered: *shrug*
