As a matter of fact google DNS indeed uses ECS, which allows us (FB) to
provide a more accurate answer based on the subnet that is provided by ECS.
Without ECS, we would regardless be able to provide some decent answer,
albeit less granular, to the query, because while you are performing a
query against 8.8.8.8, we will see the query coming from google servers in
HKG or somewhere close to where the query is originating, allowing us to
provide a customize answer based on that. see section ”location of IP
