Hi everyone,

Over the past few weeks I've been working on percentile logarithmic
histogram plots for DNS performance. These graphs have already taught us a
lot about PowerDNS, DNSSEC and networks.

A writeup, with way too many graphs, can be found on:

https://blog.powerdns.com/2017/11/02/dns-performance-metrics-the-logarithmic-percentile-histogram/

These graphs may be useful for your analysis as well.

The 'dnsscope' tool mentioned analyses PCAP files, like this:

$ dnsscope --rd=1 --log-histogram yourdnstraffic.pcap

This tool is not PowerDNS specific, it creates interesting statistics on
captured DNS traffic (at around 100MB/second).

A precompiled Linux version of dnsscope with the log-histogram features is
available through https://powerdns.org/dnsscope.tar.bz2

Please let us know your thoughts!
