[dns-operations] whois no longer follows thin registry referral?

I'm putting the finishing touches on a Perl whois client module that
solves this problem, and a bunch of others; with a command line client
front end. The code is stable, but I haven't had a chance to write the
docs yet. But this crowd could certainly handle it ...
I'm happy to put it up for review if there is interest.
