[dns-operations] Adding CNAME for the root domain issue

I wonder if the problems with using CNAME for redirection rather than
transition could have been avoided if the redirection were
type-specific, say by adding a type bitmap to the record data.

Maybe an "Internet CAnonical Name and Type" record, or "ICANT", even.
