Never underestimate the installed base.  Another approach that could
possibly work, in theory is to have multiple responses to a query with
multiple questions.  In theory.  This too opens up all sorts of new
challenges.

The other general direction that I think we should resist is a path
that encourages even larger answers and more server work to small,
unauthenticated queries.
