RIPE operates K root - which is network infrastructure, I think it is quite common for folks just to refer to "RIPE".  Nits can be picked all around ;-) It's entirely possible that Simon is not referring to k root and rather something in the RIPE region.

Please explain. RIPE is a network meeting/community with no legal identity. It has no assets and doesn't operate any network infrastructure. Is RIPE NCC hosting something for you?
