so, mostly i don't want it in /usr/ports until its CLI is stable and it has
a version number. it was written and tested on freebsd and suselinux, but
i'd like to get it ported to netbsd and solaris and the rest, and publish
it at a stable URL as a .tar.gz, all before it goes into /usr/ports.
i'm worried about the default being to blast binary garbage all over stdout.
maybe i should make "-d -" mean dump-to-stdout, make the default be to dump
nothing, and add a "-g" option to produce dig-like trace output on stderr?
