Jeff,
I was the sole developer of the authoritative domain name server for
eNom and continued after they were acquired by Demand Media. I spent an
entire 9 years first upgrading their initial implementation, improving
it over the years as DDoS attacks increased, and eventually replace
their system with an entirely new system which handled much more
demanding loads, up to 2 billion queries per day, with dozen servers
using anycast to cope with, among other issues, the daily attacks
against our infrastructure.
I have deep understanding of the issues and some specific ideas about
how to ring even greater performance out of linux machines using
advanced low-level facilities in of linux.
