Nominet are seeking a skilled DNS / System Administrator to assist the Systems Team with the design and transition of Nominet’s public facing nameserver Infrastructure to a new design and some new locations.
The role will require the successful applicant to quickly understand the existing environment and rapidly build the relationships required to make the transition successful.
The role will be primarily aimed at project tasks but will be required to help with “Business As Usual”.
The individual will require expertise in both infrastructure configuration & management and a thorough understanding of DNS/DNSSEC Services.

*Job Description*

To provide technical expertise and assist in the development and provisioning of new name server sites supporting the .uk infrastructure & assist with a number of DNS and DNSSEC related projects during 2013.
The role will require experience in DNS/DNSSEC and networking (particularly BGP & Anycast) experience of virtualized infrastructures, Scripting and automating sysadmin tasks.
The ability to write code that is secure is desirable as is a background in working on large, high volume critical infrastructures.
As well as a mixture of the technical skills detailed below, candidates will have good communication skills and the ability to quickly build strong relationships
Key Objectives are:

·       Work with the SA team to re-design Nominet’s Public name server site
·       Assist with planning and implementing the new Public DNS site design
·       Assist with setting up signing of the .uk name space
·       Assist with the transition of Nominet’s current DNS signing service

Core Skills:

·       5 years+ experience working in infrastructure  roles
·       A thorough understanding of internet, networking and infrastructure technologies
·       Requires a significant knowledge of;
o   Linux (Red Hat 5 / 6)
o   DNS (Public Facing)
o   DNSSEC
o   Hardware Security Modules
o   BIND version 9
o   NSD version 3
o   Networking in general but particularly BGP and anycast

·       Desirable is experience in
o   Windows 2008
o   Puppet
o   Java
o   Oracle / SQL / MySQL
o   VM Ware Hyperic
o   VM Ware
 This is a contract position with an initial term of 6 months but expected to extend to 12.
