Based on the querying the identity of the responses using
hostname.as112.arpa, the responses are heavily skewed towards a few
large operators. Ranking the responses by operator:
#1: 198 locations - NXDOMAIN
#2: 146 locations - prisoner.iana.org. hostmaster.root-servers.org. 1 604800 60 604800 604800
#3: 52 locations - NXDOMAIN
#4: 27 locations - NXDOMAIN
#5: 25 locations - NXDOMAIN
As I sampled from around ~700 sites I think that some targeted adoption
by these leading implementers will significantly improve coverage. (I
can try and reach out to them off-list to prompt action)

Agreed. There is no dispute its the preferred solution but it will
require some significant work to make it possible, work we are pursuing.
The .arpa operations are currently entangled with root operations
involving systems that were not designed or tested to support DNAME.
