All,
Just a couple of updates you all should be aware of. There are now two IETF drafts that have passed working group last call and are in IESG review. They are:

draft-ietf-dnsop-rfc6304bis

Updates include some new advice and IPv6, plus the inclusion of DNAME redirection which addresses the problem of how to get all AS112 operators to update their configs whenever a new reverse zone goes in.

draft-ietf-dnsop-as112-dname

Speaking of DNAME, this draft describes the implementation of DNAME in AS112 nodes and doesn't go further into specifying what zones should be redirected at AS112 nodes.

While general comment is a bit late for both of these, I don't believe it's beyond the realm of possibility to fix glaring errors (philosophical and operational) if the respective authors of both drafts are forewarned. (Some of them lurk here.)

One of the aforementioned authors....

Obviously once approved and actually implemented, things are going to get interesting. The one thing I do forsee is the increase in packet traffic, but it would be nice to get more of you to post stats to track for that in advance of DNAME deployment.

Yup. The DNAME solution will be a new subnet as well (because simply pointing the traffic at servers that were not prepared for it would be uncool), and so AS112 operators can opt-in by adding the zone, and announcing the new network...

When would DNAME deployment take place? Ah, stay tuned....

Indeed...

W
